In 2022, the Schwyz cantonal police, in collaboration with other Swiss-German police forces and the Ravensburg police headquarters (Germany), confiscated cannabis products worth 3.5 million francs. The quantity is equivalent to around 8.2 million joints.
These included 13.5 kilograms of synthetic cannabinoids, 198 kilograms of industrial hemp, 110 kilograms of industrial hemp sprayed with synthetic cannabinoids and 141 kilograms of conventional drug hemp, as reported by the Schwyz cantonal police on Wednesday. In addition, 3,500 hemp plants were confiscated from an indoor hemp plantation.
The drugs were seized following time-consuming investigations in Switzerland and abroad during house searches in the cantons of Aargau, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Zurich and Schwyz, the police report.
Accordingly, criminal investigations are currently underway against several men for commercial and gang-related crimes against the Narcotics Act, according to the press release. The presumption of innocence applies.
The cantonal police warn against synthetic cannabinoids. Unlike natural cannaboids, they are produced chemically and pose a high health risk as the concentration of active ingredients varies greatly. Consumption can lead to seizures, unconsciousness and even death.
