The construction of a national data network has been delayed by around eight months. The reason for this is the extensive development and approval of the planning basis for the construction of the required fiber optic infrastructure as well as the challenges in procuring the necessary IT components.
The Secure Data Network Plus (SDVN+), which is part of the national Secure Data Network System (SDVS), is being built, as announced by the Federal Office for Civil Protection (Babs) on Thursday. This infrastructure is intended to ensure the rapid and secure exchange of data between partners in civil protection.
The SDNV+ forms the foundation of the project and should be able to transmit large amounts of data. According to the press release, cantonal and federal locations and, ultimately, the operators of the critical infrastructure are to be connected. According to previous plans, the cantons should have been connected to the SDNV+ by the end of 2024 as a first step.
