At a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky reaffirmed his country's hopes of joining the military alliance.

Kiev is expecting decisions at the NATO summit in Washington in July that will bring Ukraine closer to membership of the alliance, Zelensky said on Tuesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The presidential office in Kiev also published photos of Zelenskyi's meeting with Stoltenberg, which, according to Zelenskyi, also dealt with preparations for the NATO summit.

Russia also justifies its war of aggression against Ukraine with the country's aspirations to join NATO. However, Ukraine's admission to the alliance is not yet in sight. Selenskyj said at the meeting with Stoltenberg that until Ukraine joins, the country would continue to conclude bilateral security agreements, as it recently did with the UK.

Selenskyj thanked Stoltenberg for the unwavering support from the military alliance. He also informed the NATO Secretary General about the situation on the front and stressed that Kiev still needed help to strengthen its air defense. Russia has been waging its war of aggression against Ukraine for almost two years.

In a speech at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, Zelensky intends to appeal for billions more and arms supplies for Ukraine. He is also hoping for support in rebuilding the country. In the past two years, he has appealed for support in video speeches. This time, he traveled there himself to shake up the increasingly war-weary West.
