Several Geneva municipalities are still without drinking water

In several municipalities on the Left Bank of Geneva, the population is still unable to drink tap water. The full results of the water quality analyses are not yet known.
The results of the investigations should be available by late Tuesday evening. "Only then will the cantonal chemist decide whether or not to lift the restriction measures," according to a press release from Geneva's public utility company (SIG).
The initial physico-chemical results are reassuring. However, the results of the bacteriological analyses, which could indicate the presence of potentially harmful bacteria, must be awaited.
On the health front, the situation remains calm. There has been no increase in consultations with doctors or hospitals in connection with the drinking water problem.
After a pipe burst on Sunday night, the authorities declared the water undrinkable - unless it was boiled. The burst pipe led to a vacuum in the water network, which could have caused the water to be contaminated by bacteria in the air.
A total of 13 municipalities are affected: Anières, Corsier, Hermance, Chêne-Bougeries, Chêne-Bourg, Choulex, Collonge-Bellerive, Cologny, Meinier, Puplinge, Thônex, Vandoeuvres and part of the Eaux-Vives district in the city of Geneva.
