The manufacturer of compression stockings Sigvaris plans to cut up to 140 jobs at its sites in St. Gallen and Wittenbach SG over the next three to four years. The company intends to concentrate on specialty production there. Consultation procedures are underway at both sites.
The company is facing considerable price pressure, rising production costs and the challenges of a strong Swiss franc, according to the Sigvaris Group press release.
Various strategic measures have been introduced. These include the stronger bundling of global competencies. As part of this realignment, the central management of the company will be relocated from Winterthur to St. Gallen.
Part of the production and logistics operations in Wittenbach and St. Gallen will be relocated to other European sites within the Group. The St. Gallen site will be limited to special productions in future.
Up to 140 fewer jobs
This could lead to a gradual reduction of up to 140 jobs over the next three to four years. The company is not disclosing how many people are currently employed in Eastern Switzerland. "We do not provide any information on specific figures regarding our locations," said the family-owned company at the request of Keystone-SDA.
The first job cuts are expected to take place in 2025, while the majority of the job cuts will be implemented from 2026. Natural fluctuation, internal job changes and retirements should help to reduce the number of potential redundancies. The company is initiating a consultation process in the two affected companies.
