A 41-year-old woman was sentenced on Friday in Solothurn to 16 years' imprisonment for multiple murder. She stabbed two of her three daughters to death with a kitchen knife in Gerlafingen SO at the beginning of 2021.
The Bucheggberg-Wasseramt District Court also found the defendant guilty of defaming her husband. In addition to the prison sentence, it imposed a conditional fine. In prison, the woman has to undergo outpatient therapeutic treatment. She must pay compensation and damages to the father of the children who were killed and the eldest daughter.
The judgment is not yet legally binding. It can be appealed to the High Court of the Canton of Solothurn. The public prosecutor had demanded a life sentence for murder. The defense lawyer had pleaded for 13 years imprisonment for multiple homicide.
The crime took place on the morning of January 16, 2021 in the apartment where the Swiss woman lived with her three daughters after separating from her husband. She stabbed her 7- and 8-year-old daughters, whom she had with her husband, in their beds. She did not attack the then 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
The accused had stated that she had wanted to kill herself and not leave the children to her husband, whom she saw as a danger to them. However, she made no attempt to commit suicide. According to the prosecution, she was primarily seeking revenge on her husband. He wanted a divorce and was coping well with his life, unlike the woman.
