SP politician Eva Herzog is the new President of the Council of States

Eva Herzog is the new President of the Council of States. The small chamber elected the Basel SP politician on Monday with 44 out of 44 valid votes. The Vice-Presidency is now occupied by FDP politician Andrea Caroni from Ausserrhoden.
Caroni was elected with 42 out of 42 valid votes. Caroni, who hails from the canton of Ausserrhoden, already served as a vote counter in the Council of States last year. The members of the Council of States elected Stefan Engler (center/GR) as second Vice-President.
