Almost a thousand state employees and workers in the subsidized sector have held a demonstration in Geneva to demand a higher cost-of-living adjustment of five percent. A demonstration with the same demand also took place in Fribourg on Tuesday evening. Around 200 people took part there.
In both cantons, the trade unions criticize the offers made so far by the respective cantonal governments as insufficient. They referred in particular to inflation and the rise in electricity prices and health insurance premiums.
On November 8, the cantonal government of Geneva presented a budget for 2024 that only provides for a cost-of-living adjustment of one percent for state employees. The Fribourg State Council is proposing a cost-of-living adjustment of 1.4 percent.
