Storm Frederico picks up speed with first gale-force winds

The expected storm picked up speed early on Thursday evening and has already made itself felt with the first gale-force gusts. A wind speed of 132 kilometers per hour was measured at Säntis in eastern Switzerland. In the night to Friday, storm depression Frederico is expected to bring widespread gale-force winds.
Wind speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour were also measured early Thursday evening in Vaud, Jura, the Bernese Oberland and on the Piliatus near Lucerne.
Various railroad lines were interrupted due to strong winds, such as the one between Bern and Solothurn and the one from Zurich main station to the Uetliberg.
