Employees at the Migros meat processing plant Micarna in Ecublens VD called for a fourth day of strike action on Monday morning. The strike is directed against the planned closure of the site in spring 2025.

The employees had decided to extend the strike in view of Migros' unwillingness to negotiate, the trade union Unia announced on Monday morning. It also regretted the pressure being exerted on temporary staff to break the strike.

In order to resolve the conflict, Migros employees had submitted various proposals for negotiations. According to the union, they were hoping for a decision from the management by midday. The 84 employees had therefore decided to continue the strike.

Migros subsidiary Micarna announced the closure of the factory in Ecublens as of spring 2025 in mid-February. The Migros Group intends to concentrate meat processing at fewer locations, in particular at its headquarters in Courtepin FR. The Micarna Group employs 3050 people at 23 locations in Switzerland.
