Ten days after the shooting of a man in Hamburg, Germany, the police have arrested a suspect in Switzerland. Following extensive investigations by the homicide squad and the Hamburg public prosecutor's office, a 32-year-old Turkish man has been identified, a police spokesman said.

As there were indications of a whereabouts in Switzerland, a European arrest warrant was issued, which the Swiss police executed last Saturday, it added.

The 32-year-old allegedly got into an argument with a 33-year-old man in Harburg's Phoenix district on the afternoon of August 27. The older man was shot in the leg during the altercation. Passers-by alerted the police. An immediate search was unsuccessful.

The police had asked witnesses for information. The Hamburg police did not say in which city the suspect was arrested. The 32-year-old is to be handed over to the German authorities.
