Sust hands over investigation into helicopter crash to France

The investigation into the helicopter crash in Niouc VS in mid-February is transferred to France. The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust) delegates it to the French authorities for reasons of bias.
"The pilot in question was working on behalf of Sust," Martin Pohl, the Sust investigator responsible for the case, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday. The investigation would be carried out by the investigating authority in France in order to prevent potential conflicts of interest.
A corresponding agreement exists between Switzerland and its neighboring countries Germany and France. "According to this agreement, if a Swiss Sust expert is involved in an accident, the case is delegated to the competent authorities of another country, in this case France," explained Pohl. Such an offense also exists in the opposite case. According to Pohl, it will take about a year before the results of the investigation are available.
Pilot injured
The helicopter crashed in the Niouc region of Val d'Anniviers at around 8.30 a.m. on February 14. During a flight with an attached load, the aircraft collided with a high-voltage power line while working on a pressure line.
The pilot, who was alone on board, was injured. However, he was conscious and was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Sion. The helicopter was completely destroyed in the crash.
