SVP Jura in favor of concordat on Moutier’s change of canton

On Wednesday evening in Bassecourt JU, the delegates of the SVP Jura voted in favor of the concordat on the change of canton from Moutier BE by a single vote. The slogan for the vote in both cantons was adopted after a sometimes emotional discussion.
For the small majority of delegates, the Jura issue must be closed. The outvoted minority argued that the canton of Jura could not afford Moutier's transfer. Before the SVP, the Center, FDP and Greens had already spoken out in favour of the concordat that regulates the change of canton.
Should one of the two cantonal populations reject the concordat, the change of canton would be aborted and Moutier would remain with the canton of Bern against its will. This would result in a period of uncertainty, which neither canton wants. There are no plans to renegotiate the concordat. Moutier is to transfer to the canton of Jura on January 1, 2026.
