The Swiss People's Party (SVP) has chosen National Councillor Gregor Rutz to run for the second seat in the Council of States in Zurich. This follows the election of the current Zurich SP Council of States member Daniel Jositsch on Sunday. Rutz believes that Zurich needs a conservative representation in the Council of States in order to remain a strong economic motor of Switzerland. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) has wished Rutz success in defending the conservative seat in the Council of States. This will be the first time in 40 years that the FDP will not be represented in the Council of States. The Green Liberal Party (GLP) National Councillor Tiana Angelina Moser has been unanimously confirmed by the party leadership to run against Rutz. She is expected to receive support from the Green Party and the Social Democratic Party (SP). The SP will decide on Thursday and the Greens on Monday.
