The airline Swiss has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Tel Aviv in Israel and Beirut in Lebanon until August 13. The airspace over Iran, Iraq and Israel will not be used until this date, as Swiss announced on Wednesday.
Swiss regretted the inconvenience for its passengers, as it wrote in a communiqué. However, the safety of passengers and crew had top priority. Swiss offered affected passengers a free rebooking to a later travel date or a refund of the ticket price.
Swiss, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, is continuing to monitor the situation in the Middle East closely, the statement continued. It is in constant contact with the relevant authorities.
Iran is threatening to retaliate after the deadly attack in Tehran on the head of the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas, Ismail Haniya. The USA, Israel's closest ally, has therefore increased its military presence in the region and deployed more warships and fighter jets.
The Hezbollah militia, which is allied with Iran and based in Lebanon, has been engaged in regular border skirmishes with Israel since the start of the Gaza war on October 7. Last week, the Israeli army killed Hezbollah military chief Fuad Shukr. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah also announced a response.
