Swiss hotels also recorded more bookings in October. Overnight stays rose by 2.7 percent to 3.33 million. This means that the industry remains on course for a record after the summer season this year.
The increase is mainly due to foreign tourists. They accounted for 14.3 percent more overnight stays than in the same month last year, as announced by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Tuesday. In contrast, bookings by Swiss guests fell by 5.8 percent.
In total, 36.2 million overnight stays were recorded from January to October. This is 9.2 percent more than a year ago. Swiss hotels are therefore still on track to break the record set in the last pre-corona year 2019. Back then, there were 39.6 million overnight stays.
