Axpo, a Swiss energy company, is planning to build a nine-hectare solar power plant in Ybrig, in the canton of Schwyz. The plant will produce enough electricity to power 2600 households. The plant will be located on Roggenegg in the municipality of Oberiberg, at an altitude of 1600 meters. The land belongs to the Genossame Schwyz, a corporation that owns eleven alps and apartments. The local electricity company EWS AG, majority-owned by CKW, is also involved in the project. Axpo has informed the residents of Oberiberg about the project and the municipality and Genossame will vote on it in the coming months. Construction of the solar plant is expected to begin in a year, with the first part going into operation by the end of 2025. The plant will produce twelve gigawatt-hours of electricity per year. Axpo is also planning to build other large solar plants at the Nalps reservoir near Sedrun GR and in the Magriel area of the Disentis GR ski resort. Solar plants in the mountains have the advantage of producing more electricity in the winter, as they are often above the fog and benefit from colder temperatures and snow reflection.nnnnnnnnnnnnnn
