Swiss Remain Richest People Despite Wealth Decrease

The Swiss population remains the wealthiest in the world, with a gross wealth of more than 356,000 euros per capita. However, in 2022, the total gross wealth of people in Switzerland decreased by 2.1%, due to a 12% decrease in the value of securities. Despite this, the two other major asset classes, bank deposits and insurance/pensions, increased by 2% and 3% respectively. The net wealth per capita in Switzerland decreased by 4.4%, to around 239,000 euros, the largest decrease since the financial crisis of 2008. The USA had the second highest net wealth per capita at 253,000 euros. Overall, the world population lost as much wealth in the last year as it had since the financial crisis, due to falling stock prices.
