The 50-year-old Swiss SP National Councillor from the canton of Vaud, Roger Nordmann, is considered a political heavyweight. In June, he surprisingly stepped down from the presidency of the SP Federal Assembly faction after eight years in office. He did this in order to be elected to the Parliamentary Investigation Commission (PUK) which is examining the emergency merger of the major banks UBS and CS. The political science graduate describes himself on the website of the Federal Assembly as a professional politician. Since 2004, Pierre Maudet has been a member of the Swiss National Council. Twice, his party has made an exception to the term limit rule to allow him to run for re-election. The last time was in 2022, after Pierre Maudet agreed to let his party colleague Pierre-Yves Maillard take precedence in the Council of States elections. In the 2019 Swiss federal elections, Thomas Nordmann was narrowly defeated by Ada Marra in the nomination assembly, with Marra receiving 166 votes to Nordmann's 159. However, Marra was unable to defend Géraldine Savary's seat, and Nordmann was forced to abandon his dream of becoming a Council of States member. If Nordmann succeeds in his re-election, it would be his sixth term in Bern. He has gained the most experience in the Commission for Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (Urek), which he currently also belongs to. Other previous stations were the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications (KVF) and the Security Policy Commission (SIK). Nordmann is committed to energy policy and social issues, and stands for solidarity, environment, knowledge and openness in Switzerland. He often says, "My brand is to build bridges". However, he believes that a compromise does not mean a concession. Just before the start of his career in Bern nearly twenty years ago, Nordmann was a member of the Vaud Cantonal Parliament for a few months. From 1998 to 1999, he was a member of the Lausanne City Parliament. Nordmann was born on March 23, 1973 in Lausanne. He is married and has two children; his wife is Lausanne's Financial Controller Florence Germond.
