Swiss woman killed in accident in southern Italy

A 44-year-old Swiss woman was killed in an accident on the highway near Bari in southern Italy on Wednesday, according to Italian media reports. Six other people, also Swiss nationals, were injured, two of them seriously.

At the request of Keystone-SDA, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) confirmed on Thursday that it was aware of an accident involving seven Swiss nationals. It confirmed the death of a Swiss woman and the six injured. The Swiss embassy in Rome is in contact with the Italian authorities. The FDFA declined to provide further details for reasons of data and privacy protection.

According to media reports, the accident occurred when the vehicle was traveling in the direction of Pescara. For reasons to be clarified by the investigation, the car overturned while driving in the overtaking lane.
