Les Auberges de Jeunesse Suisses ont enregistré un nombre record de nuitées en 2023. 807 196 nuitées ont été réservées l'année précédente, comme l'a annoncé l'association des Auberges de Jeunesse Suisses lors de la manifestation organisée dimanche à l'occasion du 100e anniversaire des Auberges de Jeunesse Suisses.
This means that 7.4% more overnight stays were booked than in 2022. At 73.3%, the proportion of guests from Switzerland in 2023 was 3.1 percentage points above the pre-Covid-19 pandemic level in 2019. The proportion of overnight stays by international guests was still 1.7% below the pre-pandemic level.
"The good figures from 2023 are also manifesting themselves in the first months of 2024 and indicate that the current anniversary year will also be a successful one," CEO Janine Bunte is quoted as saying in the press release with a view to the current year.
Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin was also welcomed to Rapperswil-Jona SG on Lake Zurich for the 100th anniversary celebrations of Swiss Youth Hostels on Sunday. "In the beginning - 100 years ago - there was the idea of promoting leisure activities on a meaningful basis and providing an offer for this purpose. The Swiss Youth Hostels have clearly achieved this over the years," said Parmelin at the anniversary celebrations, according to the press release.
In 1924, the foundation of a Zurich cooperative for youth hostels laid the foundation stone for this type of accommodation and the starting signal for youth tourism in Switzerland. Today, the network of the Swiss Youth Hostels Association consists of 42 of its own hostels and seven franchise hostels, which, according to the association, "range from romantic castles to urban design establishments and wellness hostels".
