US pop queen Taylor Swift kicked off the European leg of her world tour to great acclaim in Paris. The tour will also take Swift to Switzerland this summer.
"I would have liked to have toured more in Europe," said the 34-year-old at her concert in the French capital on Thursday evening. "This is a dream audience," she added, looking at the enthusiastic crowd. The set list was modified compared to the US concerts, with songs from the current album "The Tortured Poets Department" celebrating their live premiere.
Days before the four Paris concerts, particularly persistent "Swifties" had already camped out in front of the La Défense Arena concert hall, as the AFP news agency reported. Some even managed to get tickets for all four concert evenings - the average official price was 180 euros per ticket. However, significantly more was paid on the black market.
The singer dropped some songs that were still on the program in the USA, but the fans got to hear seven other tracks instead. Highlights from the current album were "Fortnight", "Down Bad" and the bitter "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived", for which fan favorites such as "The Archer" were sacrificed.
Concert lasted over three hours
Swift performed for more than three hours with a flawless voice together with her band, who have accompanied her for many years. The 34-year-old performed 45 songs from her 18-year career to date. At each concert on the tour, there are two surprise acoustic songs, one with guitar, one on piano.
Swift's world tour is already beating all records. When it comes to an end, ticket sales are expected to reach 1.4 billion US dollars (around 1.2 billion Swiss francs) - making it the most profitable concert tour of all time. The US pop star has been touring with "Eras" since March 2023 and has performed in North and South America as well as Asia and Australia so far. She is still on the road in Europe until August, performing at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich on July 9 and 10.
