The 20th Zurich Film Festival opened on Thursday with a host of celebrities from the worlds of culture, politics and show business. The star guest was US actor Jude Law, who presented his latest film "The Order" in Zurich.

Guests expected on the green carpet included the singer Baschi, Nemo and the Zurich "Tatort" detectives Carol Schuler and Anna Pieri Zuercher. Politicians were represented by Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and Zurich Mayor Corine Mauch.

In addition to Jude Law, this year's ZFF line-up promises several Hollywood celebrities: Kate Winslet, Richard Gere and Pamela Anderson are also expected to attend. Swiss humor will be honoured with Emil Steinberger. Steinberger, who can be seen in the documentary "Typisch Emil", will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The ZFF has already put an end to one potential controversy: the controversial film "Russians at war" by Russian-Canadian filmmaker Anastasia Trofimova will not be shown after all.
