The Swiss Ständerat has rejected a motion from the Nationalrat to amend the law to allow tax deductions for renovations and extensions of existing buildings that are beneficial to the environment and energy savings. The Ständerat followed the recommendation of its Commission for Economy and Taxes (WAK-S) which stated that the current practice of the authorities was not in line with the law. The Federal Court had already declared this at the beginning of the year. Therefore, no legislative action was necessary and the motion was unanimously rejected. This means that renovations and extensions of existing buildings that are beneficial to the environment and energy savings cannot be deducted from taxes.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
