Retour au fil d'actualité

The Swiss Federal Government is looking to involve the cantons in the management of the asylum situation this autumn. Justice Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider said that decisions cannot be centralized, but the costs can be shared. She is aware of the reality of the cantons and that creative political instruments can be used in difficult times. The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) estimates 28,000 asylum applications this year, with the potential to rise to 35,000 if the geopolitical situation changes. The cantons and municipalities will provide an additional 1,800 places for asylum seekers, with the Federal Government needing an additional 3,000. The agreement with the cantons shows that trust has been built. The rejection of container villages by the Council of States in June was not due to a lack of preparation. The situation is complex and the process of political dossier processing takes time.nnnnnnnnnnnn
