The forest fire in the Upper Valais has been gradually stabilised according to the fire brigade commander in charge of fighting the fire. The firefighters have benefited from a decreasing wind, meaning that the Riederalp has not yet been affected. So far, there have been no injuries, no building damage and no animals have been harmed. 205 people have been evacuated from the threatened areas in the municipalities of Bitsch and Ried-Mörel. A telephone hotline has been set up for the population of these areas and for those living and visiting the Riederalp. The firefighting efforts are in full swing and it is hoped that more fire hotspots can be extinguished by midday Tuesday. However, until the smoke clears, there will be no relief. In addition, the wind usually increases in the afternoon.
