The population of Brienz is hoping for a swift return to their village after a large debris flow occurred in the night of June 16th. According to geologists, the situation on the mountain has calmed down, but the danger is not yet eliminated. Daniel Albertin, the mayor of Albula, expressed his shock at the size of the debris cone which stopped just metres away from the village during a visit on Wednesday. He is hopeful that the geologists will soon give a signal of relaxation and that it will only be a matter of days before the 84 inhabitants of Brienz can return home. The mountain is still being closely monitored by geologists and the Frühwarndienst, with the focus on the plateau at the top of the mountain which was temporarily set in motion after the debris flow. In the medium term, there is still a risk associated with this, according to geologist Stefan Schneider.
