At the end of June 2023, Switzerland had a population of 9,006,664 people, with 8,902,308 permanent residents and 2,369,382 foreign nationals. The permanent population includes Swiss citizens and all those with a valid residence permit who have been in the country for at least 12 months, including those with S-status from Ukraine. 47,200 foreign nationals have migrated to Switzerland in the first half of the year, mainly from EU/Efta countries, due to strong demand in the labour market and low unemployment. The non-permanent population was 104,356, including those in the asylum process with a stay of less than 12 months and those with a short-term residence permit for less than 12 months.
