The huts of the Swiss Alpine Club SAC can look back on the best summer season in their history. The 147 open huts recorded a total of 310,735 overnight stays for the summer months of 2023.

This was announced by the SAC on Wednesday. For the first time, turnover of over ten million francs was achieved. With the exception of Valais, more overnight stays were recorded in all regions between the beginning of May and the end of October than in the previous year.

Over the year as a whole, the huts recorded 373,123 overnight stays - 1,800 fewer than in the record year of 2022. According to the press release, Ticino in particular benefited from the good conditions for hut hikes. The huts in the Bernese Oberland were also more popular than in previous years. All other regions recorded a decline for the year as a whole.
