Retour au fil d'actualité

Minister of Transport Albert Rösti expressed understanding for the possible resumption of passenger traffic through the Gotthard Base Tunnel at the end of the year. He noted that since the opening of the New Alpine Transversal Railway seven years ago, there had never been such a serious accident, and that fortunately no people were injured. He emphasised the importance of safety for passengers, and the need for alternative routes through the Lötschberg and Gotthard mountain passes. Rösti also expressed understanding for the possibility of resuming passenger traffic through the tunnel at the end of the year, as eight kilometres of track and embankments need to be replaced. He stressed that the safety of passengers must be the priority. He also said that it was too early to consider any demands for improved control of freight trains in other countries, as the Swiss Safety Investigation Authority will present its initial findings next week.nnnnnnnnnn
