The "Tages-Anzeiger" commented online on the election of Federal Councillor Beat Jans as follows:
"Change is never easy, but it is always possible - with these words, Green Party leader Aline Trede appealed to Parliament to have the courage to change the magic formula. Here and now. Her appeal fell on deaf ears. No change was possible in this parliament today. The Greens' attack on Ignazio Cassis' FDP seat failed miserably. Instead, everything went according to the plan of the Federal Council parties (...). So everything was in perfect order? Not at all. The comparatively weak results of several members of government show that many parliamentarians are dissatisfied with the distribution of power between the parties. After the parliamentary elections in October, the Federal Council parties have also become increasingly aware that the previous magic formula can hardly be maintained in the medium term. The balance of power and the parties' claims to seats are too ambiguous. The part of the electorate not represented in the Federal Council is also too large. (...). The parliamentary groups can no longer afford to ignore this widespread dissatisfaction. They should start concordance talks as soon as possible. The aim must be to involve all relevant forces according to their strength. (...)"
