Thieves have broken into a branch of luxury jeweler Bulgari in the Italian capital Rome through a hole in the floor and stolen jewelry worth at least 485,000 Swiss francs. The perpetrators were still on the run on Sunday afternoon.
According to initial police findings, at least three unknown perpetrators broke into the luxury store through a hole in the floor - either via a neighboring house or through the sewers. Although the alarm system sounded shortly before midnight, the perpetrators were able to disappear before the first police officers arrived.
The store is located in Via Condotti, one of the Italian capital's luxury shopping streets in the immediate vicinity of the Spanish Steps. Investigators are hoping to obtain information from the CCTV footage. According to initial findings, the perpetrators were masked and wearing gloves.
