The incumbent member of the Schaffhausen Council of States Thomas Minder (non-party) could miss out on re-election. If his challenger Simon Stocker (SP) receives a similar number of votes in the city of Schaffhausen as in the first round, he will win.
After 22 of 26 municipalities had been counted, Minder received 7032 votes and Stocker 5882 votes, according to the results published by the State Chancellery on an ongoing basis.
The final decision is likely to be based on the votes from the city of Schaffhausen, where around half of the canton's population lives. In the first round of voting, Stocker received around 3,000 more votes than Minder in the city, and was even ahead of the re-elected Hannes Germann (SVP).
