Tourist taxes in Switzerland are a patchwork quilt

There is great disparity in visitor taxes in the 80 municipalities with the highest number of visitors in Switzerland. Arosa GR does not levy a tax, while Saas Fee VS and Montreux charge their guests up to seven francs per night per person. They therefore charge the highest visitor's tax in the country.
In addition to Arosa, Andermatt UR, Celerina/Schlarigna GR, Engelberg OW, Sils im Engadin GR and Spreitenbach AG do not charge guest taxes or charge them at a flat rate, as the online comparison service Comparis.ch announced in a press release on Tuesday.
It is not only the visitor's tax that differs from place to place. There can be gradations within a town, so that an overnight stay in a four-star hotel is subject to a higher visitor's tax than in a vacation apartment. According to Comparis.ch, the taxes can also vary considerably within a canton or region.
