Tree falls on a car in Gurzelen BE: the driver dies

A tree fell onto a car in a wooded area near Gurzelen BE on Thursday evening during storm Frederico. The 72-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident.

Shortly before 9.10 p.m., the police received an automatic emergency call from a cell phone about an accident in Gurzelen, as reported by the Bernese cantonal police and the regional public prosecutor's office in Oberland on Friday. The patrol deployed found a car in Grub in Gurzelen that had been hit by a fallen tree.

According to the press release, the driver was trapped in the vehicle and seriously injured. The emergency services were only able to determine the driver's death at the scene. The man lived in the canton of Bern.

As a result of the accident, the road was closed until the following day. The police have launched an investigation into the accident under the direction of the regional public prosecutor's office, it was reported.
