Trend: The center is making gains in the Thurgau cantonal elections

According to an initial projection, the Center Party and the SP are gaining seats in the cantonal parliament. There are signs of losses for the Greens, FDP and GLP. The SVP defends its supremacy.

According to an initial projection by the research institute GFS Bern, the center and the SP are among the winners in the elections for the 130-member Thurgau cantonal parliament after 31 of 80 municipalities have been counted.

The Center Party gained four seats and is now the second strongest political force in the canton with 22 representatives. The SP gained 3 seats. It now has 17 seats in the cantonal parliament.

The FDP lost voter favor and, according to the projection, lost 2 of its previous 18 seats. Also among the losers are the Greens (-4), who now have 11 seats. The GLP received two fewer seats and now has 7 seats.

The SVP remains by far the strongest force in the canton with an expected unchanged 45 seats.

The EDU gained one seat (now 6), while the EPP lost one (now 5). According to projections, the Aufrecht grouping is now represented with one seat. According to the JRC Bern, the margin of error is two percent.
