Twelve people charged with illegal pornography in Ticino

Twelve people have been charged with illegal pornography in Ticino. The five adults and seven minors were arrested during house searches after several tips were received from the Federal Office of Police (fedpol).
The checks took place simultaneously on November 21 in various locations in the regions of Lugano, Mendrisio, Bellinzona and Locarno, as reported by the Ticino cantonal police on Friday. The suspects were arrested, questioned and subsequently charged with illegal pornography. Computers, tablets and smartphones were confiscated.
The defendants are accused of sharing pornographic material depicting sexual acts with minors via social networks or instant messaging services.
The number of investigations into illegal pornography has risen sharply in Ticino in recent years, a trend that can also be observed throughout Switzerland, the police reported. In 2022, 71 investigations were initiated in the canton on this charge, almost twice as many as in the previous year.
This trend is explained by the easy access to illegal material, but also by the greater efforts made by the authorities to combat this phenomenon.
