Two people die in a dormitory fire in Uster ZH

Two people died in a fire at a residential home for people with disabilities in Uster ZH on Wednesday evening. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The deceased were a 31-year-old female resident and a 34-year-old male resident of the home, as reported by the Zurich cantonal police on Thursday.

The fire was reported shortly after 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Emergency services were able to quickly extinguish the fire in a residential group. Three residents, one female resident and one caregiver were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.

The residential home is a facility for cognitively impaired people. The affected residential group is currently uninhabitable. According to initial estimates, the damage to property amounts to several hundred thousand francs. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated by specialists.
