A Valais winegrower accused of wine adulteration has been sentenced to 42 months in prison without parole. Between 2009 and 2016, he allegedly sold several hundred thousand liters of foreign, Schaffhausen or quota-free wine under the designation AOC Valais.

The winemaker and wine merchant was sentenced by the court in Sion for fraud, mismanagement, forgery of documents and incitement to forgery, as court president Sophie Bartholdi Métrailler explained at the sentencing on Monday morning. This is the highest sentence handed down in a case relating to viticulture in Valais.

At the trial, the public prosecutor's office and the plaintiff's side had demanded five years in prison.
