Vaud bans sale of e-cigarettes to minors

The canton of Vaud bans the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors. Advertising these products to the public is also prohibited.
"All tobacco products, including heated tobacco products, and other similar products such as electronic cigarettes, puff bars (disposable e-cigarettes) and other related products, whether or not they contain nicotine, may no longer be sold or supplied to minors", the State Council announced on Tuesday. The law comes into force on July 15.
Their consumption is now also prohibited in public places indoors or in enclosed spaces. Sales outlets will be granted a transitional period to adapt to the regulations, according to the government.
In addition to the ban on sales and distribution to minors, the law also requires retailers to verify the age of buyers by means of an ID.
Last November, the Grand Council approved an amendment to the law so that disposable e-cigarettes are subject to the same legal framework as normal cigarettes and tobacco.
There are currently no legal provisions at federal level to protect minors when selling e-cigarettes. Sales to minors are prohibited in various cantons. Vaud is the last canton in French-speaking Switzerland to introduce such a ban.
