Basel pop star Vincent Gross took to the ice track in Winterberg, Germany, at the weekend and won the silver medal at the "Wok World Championships".
As reported by "Blick", Gross took part in the "TV total Wok-WM" joke event, which was the brainchild of German show host Stefan Raab. Sitting in a wok bowl, he raced down an ice channel at over 80 km/h and won silver. For the 2012 Swiss Taekwando champion, the competition was a leap in the dark. Practicing beforehand was practically impossible for various reasons. "I simply didn't have the time to train with my workload. Unfortunately, I also don't have a bobsleigh run in my garden," says the singer with a laugh. The descent required courage, a lot of feeling and a pinch of kamikaze mindset. "You start and then everything happens very quickly," explained Gross, adding: "All you see is this ice track and you have to give it your all."
Bruises were included
The difficulty was the balance in the round wok and keeping the position in the direction of travel. His wok suffered a few dents from the ride, but Gross himself only got a few bruises. An effort that paid off: In the end, the pop singer ended up in second place behind German former handball player Pascal "Pommes" Hens - the two were separated by less than a second in the overall standings. "The fighting spirit is in my blood. As a former competitive athlete, I don't think I'll ever get rid of it," said Vincent Gross about his performance.
