The fire brigades fighting the forest fire in the Upper Valais are receiving special equipment from the army. This includes a system for mapping fire sources and thermal imaging cameras. The specialists will start recording on Thursday morning. Helicopters are being used to drop water accurately. On Tuesday, up to seven helicopters were in use, including two large Super Puma helicopters from the army. The aim is to create a secure situation by nightfall, as the wind has increased in higher areas, which could cause small fires to become larger. The mayor of Riederalp, Peter Albrecht, said that the situation in his municipality is still stable. The cantonal police have announced that the prosecutor has opened an investigation into the cause of the fire against unknown persons.
