Israeli singer Eden Golan has an unpleasant déjà vu at the Eurovision Song Contest final: once again she is greeted by whistles in the hall.
There were protests against Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) on Saturday evening. Whistles could already be heard in the hall as Israeli singer Eden Golan entered the stage during the nations' run-in. During the performance of her song "Hurricane", Golan again had to endure numerous whistles and loud boos.
Unease briefly gripped the hall. The singer had already experienced such protest reactions from the audience against Israel during the semi-final. At both performances, however, the audience's cheers clearly outweighed the protests.
At the beginning of the finale, there was also a symbolic deviation from the show on stage: Ireland's act Bambie Thug wore the country's flag on her body as a dress rather than the usual cape. Bambie Thug had originally wanted to wear demands for a ceasefire painted on her own body as a protest against Israel's policies, but had rejected this under pressure from the organizers.
At the flag parade, the Swiss act Nemo presented the country's flag on his back - but with the non-binary flag in front of his chest. Nemo himself identifies as non-binary, i.e. neither male nor female.
Due to the exclusion of the Netherlands and its artist Joost Klein at starting number 5, there was a small, barely noticeable hole in the parade - which was filled on television by music and images of the audience dancing.
