WHO chief: Israel’s military action in Gaza clinic “completely unacceptable”

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has strongly condemned the Israeli military operation in a clinic in the Gaza Strip.
"Israel's military incursion into the Shifa hospital in the city of Gaza is completely unacceptable," Tedros said at the start of a press conference in Geneva on Wednesday.
The Israeli military is convinced that a command center of the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas is located under the hospital.
Even if healthcare facilities are used by the enemy for military purposes, the principles of international humanitarian law apply, according to which civilians must be protected and disproportionate force must not be used, Tedros emphasized. "Hospitals are not battlefields," he said.
