Woman critically injured in boat accident on Lake Maggiore

A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a boat collision on Lake Maggiore on Wednesday. The accident occurred near the Maggia delta near Locarno.

According to information from the Ticino cantonal police, two boats collided at around 1.45 p.m. about 300 meters from the mouth of the river. One boat was heading towards Porto Ronco, while the other was coming from Gambarogno.

The critically injured woman is a 76-year-old woman who lives in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. The 80-year-old boat driver and a second 75-year-old passenger were also seriously injured, the police wrote. However, their injuries were not life-threatening. According to the information, both also live in German-speaking Switzerland.

The skipper of the second boat - a 36-year-old Swiss man who lives in the Locarno region - was uninjured. The cause of the accident was initially unclear.
