Woman dies while stand-up paddling in the River Aare

A woman died while stand-up paddling in the River Aare near Wichtrach between Thun and Bern on Sunday evening. According to initial findings by the police, she and a man were each on a board when they capsized for reasons still to be clarified.
The man was able to rescue himself from the water, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Monday. Meanwhile, the woman was in distress. The man and third parties present were able to rescue her from the water. Despite immediate rescue measures, she died in hospital. The deceased was a 43-year-old Swiss woman from the canton of Graubünden.
