Work on the Gotthard is Running at Full Speed Again

The Swiss Federal Roads Office (Astra) has announced that the blasting for the construction of the second tube of the Gotthard Tunnel has not caused any damage to the existing tunnel tube. As a result, the interrupted excavation works will be resumed on Wednesday. On September 10th, tension displacements in the mountain range caused damage to the intermediate ceiling of the Gotthard Tunnel. As a precautionary measure, Astra suspended the excavation works in the vicinity of the damage event.
