On Friday, the Zurich District Court sentenced a 51-year-old man to 19 years' imprisonment. It found him guilty of murdering his 40-year-old wife with numerous stab wounds in Zurich-Altstetten in November 2022.
The judgment is not yet legally binding. It can be appealed to the High Court of the Canton of Zurich. The defense lawyer had argued for a conviction for manslaughter and a sentence of seven years' imprisonment. The public prosecutor had demanded a life sentence for murder.
The crime took place on November 23, 2022 in the apartment where the family of four had been living for a few months. The previously unremarkable, blameless man believed the woman was cheating on him. However, the suspicion was unfounded.
The Swiss man with Turkish roots had installed a video camera to monitor the woman. The camera recorded parts of the crime as well as voices and noises. The recordings served as key evidence in the trial.
