The Zurich senior public prosecutor's office wants to prevent the detention of the so-called "parking garage murderer" from being converted into an inpatient measure. As a precautionary measure, it has filed an appeal against the ruling of the Zurich district court.

The precautionary appeal is the prerequisite for being able to definitively appeal a judgment to the High Court. The public prosecutor's office will then make the final decision on the appeal as soon as the court's written judgment is available.

Last Friday, the District Court of Zurich decided to convert the custody of the "parking garage murderess" into an inpatient measure under Article 59. The woman will not be released as a result.

She remains in Hindelbank women's prison, but now receives therapy. This can be extended as long as there is a risk of recidivism.

Once the "most dangerous woman in Switzerland"

The so-called "parking garage murderess" has been behind bars for 25 years and was once considered the "most dangerous woman in Switzerland". In 2015, the security regime was relaxed slightly and she now has contact with other inmates. Before that, she lived in the highest security level, which meant complete isolation.

The now 51-year-old stabbed a 29-year-old woman to death in Zurich's Urania parking garage in the summer of 1991 - hence the nickname "parking garage murderess". In January 1997, she killed a 61-year-old woman in the Chinagarten on Lake Zurich, also with a knife. A third victim survived. She gave hatred of women as her reason.

In 2001, she was sentenced to life imprisonment. The prison sentence was postponed and custody was ordered in accordance with the law at the time.
