Swisscom has announced a significant initiative to reduce its CO2 emissions within the mobility sector by integrating over 1200 electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet.

This move is slated to transition its entire array of passenger cars to electric, a considerable leap from its current count of nearly 100 electric pilot vehicles. The telecom giant has set a timeline for this transition, aiming to eliminate vehicles powered by internal combustion engines from its passenger fleet by the end of 2024.

Given Swisscom’s fleet size of approximately 2,500 vehicles, this transition represents one of the more substantial shifts towards electric mobility within Swiss corporate fleets. Swisscom is aiming for a 50% reduction by 2025 and hit net-zero emissions by 2030.

The transition to a fully electric fleet involves several considerations. These include the logistical challenges of integrating many EVs, such as the need for adequate charging infrastructure, the lifecycle environmental impact of EVs, including battery production and disposal, and the potential financial implications associated with transitioning and maintaining a more extensive electric fleet.
